Strategies for Managing Learning

Compensation is resorting to other means of finding out when your own knowledge is insufficient. This could be asking a fellow student, a teacher or referring to a dictionary or textbook. Compensation can act as a positive strategy because eventually you will internalize the missing knowledge and not need to look it up any more, especially if you keep a list of the ones you had to look up.

Examples

1 If I don’t know a kanji, I look it up in a dictionary

2 If I’m not exactly sure of a kanji, I ask someone who knows
